Maya Chen is a London-based digital artist whose work blends retro-futurism with organic forms. Her collaboration with TMK Tees — the Neon Grid capsule — sold out within hours of launch. We caught up with her to talk inspiration, process, and what's next.
"I've always been fascinated by the space where technology meets nature," Maya explains. "Neon Grid started as a digital sketch exploring how city grids look from above at night — those glowing patterns of light and movement. The idea of translating that onto fabric was irresistible."
Maya's process combines hand-drawn elements with algorithmic generation. "I'll sketch forms by hand on my tablet, then use generative tools to create patterns and variations. The UV-reactive ink was a happy accident — I wanted the design to change character depending on the light, just like a city skyline transforms from day to night."
"The TMK Tees team gave me complete creative freedom, which is rare in collaborations. They understood that the design needed space to breathe — no oversized logos, no forced branding. The focus stayed on the art, which is exactly how it should be."
Selling out in under 4 hours was a shock. "I was genuinely moved by the response. People sent me photos of themselves wearing the design in Tokyo, Berlin, New York. Seeing your art become part of someone's daily expression is indescribable."
Maya is already working on her next collection with TMK Tees — tentatively titled "Digital Flora." Expect more UV-reactive elements and a new fabric innovation she's testing. "I can't say too much yet, but it involves heat-reactive inks. Let's just say the design will change when you're in a warm room."
